I'd love to read Mr Godin, if not for geo-blocking
That moment when a great idea from the publishing industry fails because of geoblocking content.
Seth Godin’s Domino Project adivses that that PublishersLunch created a digital advance of their latest release. Pretty cool, an advance is usually provided to booksellers only. 'Using ebooks to promote ebooks,' wrote Seth. I love it, so I went to download it.
Unfortunately I can't. I'm in Australia and the content is geo-blocked to North America. Except that I did circumvent the block with a VPN. Which is the point. Geo-blocking content does not work.
The content industries wonder how to stop 'digital piracy'? They could start with not creating the need to hack, crack, cloak IP addresses or simply hit up the Pirate Bay or Usenet in the first place? They could start by making aquiring content a simple, seamless experience, no matter where you live.
