I find it more than a little ironic that a film about a social network, The Social Network, which is showing in theatres Stateside and which is generating monstrous buzz on social networks, is not due to be released in Australia until November 25.
If ever there was a case of Hollywood showing it doesn’t understand the dynamics of global communication, of showing it has little regard for its customers’ interests, or of showing it doesn’t care if end-users download a copy of some sort from the net, then this is it.
Surely these entertainment conglomerates get what they deserve if they’re not prepared to play by the new rules? And one such rule is that territorial copyright is now an anathema to the creative industry’s medium-term business interests.
