I dropped my iPhone 4 on a roadway last weekend working at the Soundwave music festival. The glass screen is trashed — it’s the most dramatic iPhone screen crack I’ve seen yet (and crew, artists and biz types who saw it agree).
So I went to get it repaired, and here’s what I found:
DIY repair kit off eBay, $35
3rd party repairer, $150-$190
Apple replacement, $250
When I spoke to an Apple rep about the problem, without any accusation or blame he said that Apple would swap the phone for a new one. Too easy!
I have no idea how 3rd party repairers can charge what they do; who’d go for that option? Anyhow, being a tech type the DIY option suits me fine.
